In the beginning of 2020 I started a new adventure at Aegon(via HCL) in the role of Senior UX Designer. Here I was responsible for all mortgage related products within Aegon.

I was the lead designer for two scrum teams during my 2+ years at Aegon: one team for the consumer side(Mijn Aegon) and one team for our portal for financial advisors(AIP). I attended all team events and worked closely together with all disciplines within the teams (developers, BIA, PO) to make sure we made the right choices, and to make sure that the designs where implemented exactly as intended. I also worked closely together with the Design System team, the Legal & Communication department for the content and the dedicated UX researchers within Aegon.

My biggest achievements at Aegon were to be (from start to finish) part of designing the best and most user-friendly mortgage portal for consumers in the Netherlands in 2022, and also designing the most complex self-service ever created within Aegon, a service within AIP where advisors can re-arrange the mortgage(s) of their clients when they go through a divorce.

DigiD

DigiD Machtigen

The second half of 2019 I did a project for Logius: redesigning the website for DigiD Machtigen.

The annual tax return, changing your rent benefit or applying for a student grant. Government affairs are increasingly managed online. Sometimes people need help with this, or maybe you might want to help someone else. As your DigiD is private, you shouldn't share it with anyone. That is why 'DigiD Machtigen' is available. You only give permission for a specific task and for a certain time. In addition to people, you can also authorize a company or an organization, for example your tax advisor or trade union.

For this project I worked together with different organisations to organize user testing in multiple usability labs. After creating the interaction design I was also responsible for the visual design, working in Sketch.

Pensioenfonds X

Pension portal

I started 2019 with a short project, where I was asked to come up with the first designs for a pension portal. There wasn't a lot of time to do research yet, but together with business experts and stakeholders from the pension fund itself we were able to come up with a first draft of the new, desired visual identity.

It was important for the client to get the right feeling across. Therefore we came up with a design with variable content, adapted to the type of user. An elderly person would for example be spoken to in a more formal way then a young person, the images might be more appealing for a certain type of user, and the content itself will be more relevant. It is also possible to compare your pension plan in different scenario's(early retirement, sickness, divorce, etc.)

Mediq

A platform for people suffering incontinence problems

During the first months of 2019 i worked on a pilot project for Mediq. Mediq asked us to design an online platform for people who suffer incontinence problems. These people often have a lot of practical questions and this platform should provide them with the right information for any situation. The platform was set up in a way that users can interact with it in multiple ways: They can interact with a chatbot(the most important topic of the project), search hierarchical, or search in an extensive database with information using filters and such.

For this project I conducted a lot of usability tests with types of users that we, designers, often try take in account in the design process, but usually never see or speak to. Talking with people with common disabilities like incontinence, but also Paraplegia and Multiple sclerosis (MS) was a real eyeopener for me.

While visiting both Indonesia(twice) & the Philippines in 2018 & '19, we shot loads of video material with the GoPro and a drone. With these clips I created an aftermovie for each destination, using Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects.

Application & Customer Portal

In the beginning of 2018 I was hired by ING to create a redesign for the international ING Lease application. This is an application where different types of users(ING’s financial advisors, car dealers, ‘normal people’) in various countries can make calculations and request financing for leasing objects like cars, cranes & machinery. The previous design did not match ING’s new corporate identity.

I also worked on designing a new customer portal where vendors can manage their carfleet, contracts, financials & more.

For this project I conducted multiple rounds of usability tests through the whole country, visiting different types of users, mostly employees of ING. I worked closely together with the development teams in Belgium & the Netherlands, and UX experts within ING Netherlands. I also worked together with stakeholders from Italy, Spain & France.

CEAT

Capgemini Employee Analytics Tool

Around october 2017, my year-old assignment at DVOM(The Public Prosecution Service) ended and I needed a new assignment. I was asked to do some research under stakeholders and users, and create a medium fidelity mockup for a new tool that is projected to totally change the way the worldwide staffing process withing Capgemini works. A very interesting project!

In short: At the moment there are three tools that colleagues throughout the world need to use to keep their CV updated, update a profile with various skills/roles & find assignments. The CEAT tool needed to bring these three processes together and put the employee central in the staffing process. In stead of looking for assignments, the best matching assignments should be offered to employees in a social media-like, appealing environment. It might take years to change the whole process worldwide, but this is the pilot. I' m happy I was given the chance to work closely with some of the most important people within the company and to have so much freedom to come up with user friendly solutions to all the requirements.

Belastingdienst

At the end of 2017, I took on a short assignment to help out the Belastingdienst Academy by creating some animated video's for them. To create these animations I worked closely together with learning strategists and visual designers to come up with a storyboard and create a visual design in Adobe Illustrator.

After the storyboard was completed I started animating the crafts in Adobe Premiere Pro. In total I created about eight video's and two interactive animations where users would need to make decisions to proceed to alternate follow ups(E-learnings). I made the interactive animations in Adobe Captivate.

Site in a Second templates

At the end of 2014, my employers decided to start with Site in a Second, following up on the already existing Secondweb. Site in a Second offers relatively 'cheap' modern and responsive websites which can be available for clients in no time. The idea behind the company is to build website templates which can be re-used for different clients.

My job was to design and (front-end) develop most of the templates and customize them for different clients. Most of the templates were built with the Bootstrap CSS framework and some with Materialize.

VOROC

Website and application

VOROC is a digital administration system for schools through the whole country. It supports the transition of students from secondary to vocational education. The application is used by the municipality and different forms of education. VOROC is initiated by Digitaal Leren and Spirit4you. In februari 2014 I started my research internship at Spirit4you, with my full attention on VOROC. In this period I made a redesign for the VOROC website and wrote a recommendation for the application. I did this based on the outcome of extensive usability testing. Through my internship period I gave various graphic presentations to stakeholders. Fortunately, this all led to my graduation 6 months later.

In september 2014 I started working for Orange IT: The developer of VOROC. In the following year i worked together with the developer on VOROC 9.0: the newest release of the application. For Orange IT I actually did quite some work as a consultant, as mentioned in my job description.

Cmiley

Website redesign

In the summer of 2015 my employer asked me to work on his 'passion project' from time to time: Cmiley. Cmiley.com is a website where users can create 16x16 pixel art. Read all about the project on cmiley.com/about

The previous version of the website didn't really have a homepage, or to be fair: there was almost nothing on there. On the homescreen showed above you can see a carousel with the latest artworks above the rest of the content. Furthermore I introduced the artist of the week section and a system that allows users to vote artworks up and down. The artist with the most monthly upvotes becomes artist of the week. The voting system will be integrated soon.

Ikwileenkado.nl

Website redesign

In august of 2015 I was asked to make a redesign for the website ikwileenkado.nl. ikwileenkado.nl is a website where users can create a wishlist for gifts and send them to friends. These friends can follow an emaillink to the website and comfirm if they want to give a gift.

The old website was not responsive and it wasn't very user-friendly. I chose to display the main action directly on the homescreen to trigger users to create a list and see how easy it is. The left side of the screen shows the new logo with USP's. My goal was to create a fresh, responsive design, reduce the amount of text and make the main action, creating a wishlist, more appealing. Online marketing internship

In februari 2013 I started my online marketing internship at ShopFish, based in the heart of Amsterdam. ShopFish is a cashbackwebsite that earns money through affiliate marketing. ShopFish offers their users special links to webshops and give users a percentage of the percentage they get themselves for leading customers to these webshops.

Within the company I learned a lot about all facets of online marketing, like Search Engine Optimization, analytics, e-mail marketing, social media and much more. During my internship i worked on different projects covering activities like creating textual and visual content for the website(everything you see in the images and way more) and newsletters(reach: 100.000+), working on marketing activities and giving input for the variety of campagnes.

Side projects I did where creating a content styleguide, creating an advertising bannerset and running multivariate tests for the website to eventually create a boost in conversions. At the end of the run I got offered a (part-time)job.

Uitwisselingsmarkt

From the summer of 2014 till about the same time in 2015 I occasionally worked on the Uitwisselingsmarkt application, a timetable application initiated by BOVO Haaglanden. Uitwisselingsmarkt is by far not as complex as VOROC, but the usability of the application and the dated website really needed a boost. As a consultant I visited some schools and organizations that used the application to find out what they wanted us to improve.

First of all I made a redesign for the website. My goal was to keep it as simple and clean as possible. I also front-end developed the website. The challenge with the application was making sure that new users wouldn't encounter such a steep learning curve. With the design of the application I made some drastic changes, eliminating some screens and proceedings and making a lot of changes with the main goal: to simplify the workflow.

As a result, the new website and application combined contain 3 actual pages.

For the shop-variant of Site in a Second I also designed and front-end developed two webshops: Heppie Beebie and Tutuenzo.

For these webshops I had multiple meetings with the client to discuss their wishes. I had the privilege to take my time for both projects and executed them step by step: From sketches to wireframes, and from Photoshop mockups to a developed website. For Tutuenzo.nl I also designed the logo.

Around Christmas 2014 I made a redesign for the Köhler website. The auto rental service contacted Orange IT for a redesign. Unfortunately as I just started with the design and before I got to showing them anything, they merged with another company. They wouldnt continue under their own brand and would not need a new website anymore. Despite that they were very pleased with the design. This is what the old website looked like:
